The aim of this congregation is to be faithful to the Lord, teaching and preaching His will, as set forth in the word of God, avoiding and opposing the innovations and traditions of men. The hope of this congregation is that it might continue to enjoy God's favor and blessings, to grow in strength and number, that it might be used of God and His Glory and to the salvation of men. As members of this church, we dedicate ourselves to these goals.
The Twin City congregation met for the first time on January 12, 1964. J.B. and Dixie Goolsby were some of the founding members of the congregation and are still members today. Some of the early preachers included Bob Franks, Jim McDonald, Mike Coward, and Bob Felkner. In 1968, the congregation moved into its first building on Plainsman Drive in Bryan. Before that, the congregation met in the Jewish Temple at 203 S. Parker. Kent Ellis was the first preacher to devote full time to the local work from August 1969 to August 1973. David Smitherman labored with the congregation from August 1973 to June 1977; John Trokey from June 1977 to June 1979 and Joe Fitch from June 1979 to July 1981. John Iverson began working with us in July 1981 and retired from full-time preaching in December 1984 and is still a member at Twin City. In December 1984, the congregation moved to its current location on Southwest Parkway. Jesse Jenkins began preaching in the new building in January 1985 and labored with us until May 1992. Wayne Moody labored with the congregation from 1992 until January 2006. In 1994, because of the good growth of the congregation and the desire of some of the members who lived in the Benchley area to have a second sound congregation in north Bryan, a group of members from Twin City began the Benchley congregation. In June 2006, Chuck Durham began working with us and continues to labor with the congregation and work closely with the elders as we work to spread the gospel in the Bryan-College Station area. |
